A Sprocket is basically a wheel with teeth that lock or fit into the slot of a chain / belt. When the sprocket rotates, the teeth fit into the grooves of the chain and make it move. This simple operation provides a controlled rotational movement of large equipment and machinery.

Sprockets are manufactured with metal or reinforced plastic. These components are similar to gears which is a wheel with interlocking teeth which mash up together with other gears to transfer rotational movement or speed unlike Sprocket teeth which are designed in such a way that they don’t interlock with the teeth of another sprocket.
